GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 434026
Crash in nautilus_file_list_unref at nautilus-file.c line 5916
Last modified: 2012-02-23 14:41:16 UTC
Version: 2.18.1 What were you doing when the application crashed? Right-clicking to obtain the file properties, and while it's building the property window, cancel. Then right-clicking the same file and obtain the file properties. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the delay, here's the stack trace that you requested. Some additional info, the file on which I checked on its properties was a 2GB video file on a FAT32 file system. Let me know if you needed more information. --- Distribution: Gentoo Base System release 1.12.9 Gnome Release: 2.18.1 2007-04-21 (Gentoo) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.1 System: Linux 2.6.20-gentoo-r7 #1 SMP Sat Apr 28 12:21:33 MYT 2007 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 70200000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: MurrinaCappuccino Icon Theme: gnome Memory status: size: 101150720 vsize: 101150720 resident: 43810816 share: 22286336 rss: 43810816 rss_rlim: 4294967295 CPU usage: start_time: 1178122204 rtime: 389 utime: 355 stime: 34 cutime:6 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1". Thanks for the better trace, should be enough for proper debugging to start. Marking as NEW now.
still in 2.20 according to bug 488321:

Let's close this as OBSOLETE (2.20 only crash).
The crash happened for me on Jaunty, with Gnome 2.26.1; backtrace is below. Should I open a new bug here, or should this one be reopened?
+ Trace 215041
No need to open another report. Are you able to reproduce the crash with the same instructions in comment #0?
Well, actually no: I just cancelled creation of the Properties window, and then it crashed. I didn't even got to the step of "right-clicking the same file and obtain the file properties". OTOH, the backtrace is quite similar. On the third hand, I then installed debug packages for Nautilus and reproduced the problem, and got this backtrace:
+ Trace 215054
This looks different from the original backtrace. I'm a bit lost here... Are these two different bugs? Anyway... this is what I did to reproduce the problem on Ubuntu Jaunty: - start Nautilus (as it had crashed before, I now started it manually from command line) - use GVFS SFTP to connect to another machine on my LAN (the GVFS connection was already established from earlier) - on the remote share, go to a folder with some AVI files - right-click on an AVI file, and select Properties - after a few seconds, the "Click to cancel creation of the Properties dialog" message box appears - click Cancel - Nautilus crashes I didn't manage to get the Cancel message box at all for any other file type (GVFS is too fast, apparently ;) nor for any file on my local disk. Maybe for movie files it takes a bit longer because the meta data (duration, codec etc.) has to be retrieved as well. What can I do to help with this crash?

Strange thing, I could reproduce this when I was running this on ubuntu 10.04 with nautilus 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu4. But when I switched to git i never got the cancel operations dialog, I got the file properties dialog instantly (but git version should be the same) - any idea why?

Has anybody seen this crash in 3.2 or 3.0, or can this be closed as OBSOLETE after a year of no new comments?
