What were you doing when the application crashed?
added gimmie to the panel (bottom w/ autohide) in the middle of a gnome session. after applet appeared in bottom panel i clicked the most left button (labeled "linux"), clicked "recently used" and bug buddy started informing about the crash. 

after crash gnome-panel could not recover after issueing a "killall gnome-panel" from the console. had to logout and login to restore panel

This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade.
