Hi
Great but...
Windows are too heigh on Vaio C1XD picturebook (1024x480 pixels).
You are not alone - Gnome control panel has same interface default...
Just when you thought everybody was using 800x600 pixels...
May I suggest you re-read Tog and Nielsen =;-]
Cheers

Sigh...

John, any comments?

Not sure about Tog, but his reference to Nielsen has to do with
usability and developing views that support different user
configurations and environments.

Tog and Nielsen are both excellent pontificators on the topic of how everything
should be wonderful all the time. I agree that Nautilus would be better if it
ran on PalmPCs and display wristwatches. But that's kinda irrelevant. Right now
the window height is hardwired, and we should measure the screen size before
hardwiring it (and maybe in addition find some way to avoid hardwiring it
entirely).

Oops, wrong dependency bug number.

Assigning this bug to myself. I will fix it by making sure the window starts out
at a size that fits on the screen (by taking screen size into account).

Windows are now shrinkable (to a certain limit), and the initial dimensions take
the screen size into account.

What is the certain limit or is it user defined? Here is a
a user suggesting sizes.

Hi, nautilus is really great so far, but I have a complaint about the size of
its windows. I use 800x600 screen resolution, and at first, the smallest I
could shrink the nautilus window was to about 450x500. The reason I want the
window smaller is so I can see several at once and drag-and-drop between them,
and with windows that big, I can't really see two at once. I turned off the
toolbars and was able to make the view much smaller. However, once I did that,
the ability to set the zoom level appeared to be gone. It appears in the
right-click menu but not the main menu and it took me a while to find it. There
is also no longer a way to switch from icon view to list view, or to type in a
URL.
I suggest maybe changing the layout menu to a view menu and adding zoom and view
type commands. I must add that I like the fact that you have minimized the use
of sub-menus.
Thanks for the great work!

This comment is from a user running the old version where the windows
were not resizable by the user. The only way to make them smaller was to
remove the toolbars/menu bars/etc, not by stretching manually. I can tell
he has an old version because the zooming commands have been in the
main menu for awhile now. Probably he is using PR1.
