Description Wanrong Lin 2007-04-11 16:13:04 UTC
If a stock/security/commodity is purchased with a split transaction originated from another account (say, "Credit Card"), the cost basis shown in "Advanced Portfolio" report is computed assuming the share price is the *total* amount transfered in the *whole* transaction. The correct cost basis should be computed from the total amount of money spent to purchase that particular stock/security.

An example:

Two accounts, "stock A" and "stock B" are set up under "Asset", initially with 0 shares in them.

If in "Credit Card" account, I enter a transaction with two split transactions (some editing in the "stock A" and "stock B" account is needed too to enter the share number and share price):

split transaction 1: buy 2 shares of stock A, at price $1.00/share ($2.00 spent)
split transaction 2: buy 3 shares of stock B, at price $2.00/share ($6.00 spent)

The total amount in the whole transaction is $8.00. Now if I open "Advanced Portfolio" report, the cost basis shown is:

Stock A: $16.00 (seems to be computed from $8.00 * 2)
Stock B: $24.00 (seems to be computed from $8.00 * 3)

That is apparently wrong.

Please investigate it. Thank you very much.
