GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 423547
evolution-2.6 dies on startup
Last modified: 2007-04-12 20:29:24 UTC
Distribution: Slackware Slackware 11.0.0 Package: Evolution Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.14.3 2.6.3 Gnome-Distributor: FRG gsb.sourceforge.net build for slackware Synopsis: evolution-2.6 dies on startup Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Miscellaneous Bugzilla-Version: 2.6.3 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.14.1) Description: Description of the crash: I'm sure this is really my fault but I still need to fix things. I run freerock-gnome on a slackware-11.0 box. The freerock project has been dormant for several months, and in particular, has not released a fixed evolution to deal with recently discovered DST bugs. In any event, I tried upgrading by upgrading to the currently released dropline-gnome. This failed miserably, in part probably because I've upgraded X to Xorg-7.2 (there was a hang in my graphics card in the 6.9 version that comes with slackware, not to mention that dri didn't work for my card there also). I uninstalled dropline and reinstalled freerock-gnome. AFAIK everything works as expected except for evolution. My bet is that some library didn't get updated properly, but beats me as to which. Perhaps you can tell me? Steps to reproduce the crash: evolution-2.6 2. 3. Expected Results: How often does this happen? always. Additional Information: Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.6' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1". (no debugging symbols found) [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread -1232304448 (LWP 9143)] 0xb73d5071 in __waitpid_nocancel () from /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0

------- Bug created by bug-buddy at 2007-03-28 01:08 ------- Unknown version 2.6.3 in product Evolution. Setting version to "2.6.x".
OK I fixed the problem. It turns out that as part of my restore /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.13/ was replaced by seamonkey, and links to various libraries (e.g., /usr/lib/libnss3.so) were moved to point to their counterparts in the seamonkey directory. Fortunately, the mozilla directory was still there and all it took was to manually move the links back. For completeness, the list of libraries involved is: libmozjs.so libnspr4.so libnss3.so libplc4.so libplds4.so libsmime3.so libsoftokn3.so libssl3.so
