GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 422994
RFE: tabs instead of multiple windows
Last modified: 2007-03-26 13:33:04 UTC
Hello, I would like to ask, whether nautilus could be enhanced with tabs? In fact, instead of having multiple nautilus windows open, the user could open only one window with tabs, where each tab could contain the contents that was previously displayed in a window without tab. Of course, the user should always have the choice between opening a new nautilus window or opening a new tab in an already existing nautilus window. (Similarly as in firefox.) Having multiple tabs could also be convenient for the drag and drop operation: When doing a drag and drop from a source nautilus windows to a destination nautilus window, the user has to pay attention when placing the windows that the source and the destination areas remain visible during the complete drop and drop operation. On the other hand, how could he do it with tabs? - he opens a tab with the source folder - he opens a second tab with the destination folder - he switches back to the source tab, chooses the item to move and drops it on the area used to switch to the second tab - by dropping it on that tab, the item gets moved to the folder contained in that tab. (of course, as it is usually the case: if the folder of the second tab is on another volume, the item gets copied instead of moved) - the operation could continue by automatically showing the tab with the destination folder to give feedback of the move operation to the user. Many thanks in advance for reading this and hopefully taking it into consideration. Thanks in for any comment. Francesco Fumanti
