GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 422485
Add ability to type or copy/paste locations in gtk-filechooser-button
Last modified: 2018-05-02 14:28:35 UTC
To type or copy/paste a location is currently a four step process: 1) click "look in folder" dropdown box 2) click "other" 3) press ctrl+L 4) paste or type location The following change would make typing or pasting locations: * make "Look in folder" change from a dropdown box to a text entry field when any one of the following conditions are met: - ctrl+L is pressed - the "always use text-entry location bar" option is set in Nautilus. - an additional "type location directly" option is selected from the dropdown box This change would help people who: * prefer to type or copy/paste locations * are unable to use their mouse to accurately select too much (because of vision or mobility problems) This change should be acceptable to people who "like things the way they are" because current behavior is not changed significantly. Other information:
The "Look in folder" is a gtk-filechooser-button widget. These changes would need to be made to that widget in the GTK+ module. I will reassigning to GTK+.
It's possible this can be done by adding a new Entry child to the internal ComboBox when Ctrl+L is pressed, then removing it (and thus reverting to the default CellView) when e.g. Esc is pressed. Another idea, and the simplest compromise I can think of, would be to make pressing Ctrl+L when the FCB has focus open its dialog and focus the location entry. Off the top of my head, though, I'm not sure the latter is possible.
