Description Neil Curry 2007-03-23 18:10:59 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Network Manager 0.6.4 fails to connect to my wireless network if the SSID is hidden.

Router: Netgear DG834GT

Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable WPA-PSK on your router.
2. Disable network name broadcast (SSID) on your router.
3. Select "Connect to other wireless network" in the NetworkManager applet.
4. Enter the network name.
5. Select WPA-Personal.
6. Enter the network password.

Actual results:
NM-applet: The two gray dots on the NM-applet remain gray, with a blue line swirling around, and eventually i stops and I get the icon two computers with an exclamation mark.

Expected results:
NM-applet: One dot would light up green, followed by the second as it authenticates then it should ture to blue signal strength bars.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

I am using the following configuration and getting the result listed:

Operating System - Fedora 8 x86_64
Network Manager Version - 0.7.0 svn 3138
Wireless card - BCM94311MCG rev 2
Wireless driver - ndiswrapper-1.48

I have 2 wireless vlans. 1 - is broadcasting ssid with 128 bit wep hex key. 1 - is hidden ssid no encryption. I am able to connect to the broadcasting wep network, but unable to ever connect to the hidden ssid network. If I disable NetworkManager and configure manually, I am able to connect to both networks.

for mac80211-based drivers (and some others) this is a kernel driver issue.
