Description Ryan Saunders 2007-03-20 19:09:03 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When launching the GIMP on Windows Vista, the startup screen spends a VERY long time stalled on the "Fonts" step (more than 60 seconds on a 2GHz machine). The rest of the initialization process is quite speedy. This long delay happens every time I start the GIMP, not just the first time.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch GIMP on Vista

Actual results:
The startup screen takes a very long time to complete.

Expected results:
The GIMP loads in a reasonable period of time.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Please check the FAQ at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/faq.html. There is a font cache that is supposed to deal with this problem. If it doesn't work, that would be a bug in fontconfig. It would help a lot if someone could try to find out why this is happening. I am sure that the fontconfig developers would be more than happy to get some help with this.
