GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 420626
Windows maximise under the top panel in the lower head of a vertically arranged dual monitor setup
Last modified: 2007-03-21 03:47:40 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have a dual-monitor setup on my laptop - The primary screen is the lower screen, and my second monitor is placed above this. Xinerama is working correctly. If I maximise a window in the primary (lower) head, where gnome-panel is also residing, the window will be maximised as if the top panel were not there (so the window header will be hidden under the panel). Steps to reproduce: 1. Configure a dual-head setup with the secondary monitor placed above the primary 2. Load up Gnome with a panel docked on the top of the primary monitor 3. Maximise a window in the primary monitor Actual results: The window is maximised, ignoring the top panel, thus hiding the window header. Expected results: I'd expect the window header not to disappear under the top panel. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information:
This is because of a limitation in the EWMH spec for per-monitor struts, as you can't set a strut in the middle of the display. Unfortunately the only workaround currently is to not have panels in the "middle" between two monitors.
Yep, what Rob said. Already filed (in terms of the same problem with horizontally arranged monitors and vertical panels near the inner edge) as 339692. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 339692 ***
