What were you doing when the application crashed?
I have just installed camorama en gspca drivers to make my webcam (Logitech QC Communicate STX) work. The camera works, but Ekiga crashed.

And if you disable video preview and video in calls, ekiga works? I ask because the crash doesn't look related to a video issue...

I have no idea. I don't know how to do that, but if you can tell me I'll try.
Comment 3 Snark 2007-03-10 08:02:40 UTC
You can enable/disable video preview from the main window ; there's an icon for this.

You can enable/disable video in calls using the preferences window (codecs->video codecs->enable video support).

You could also run the video test in the druid.

I'm really not convinced it's a video-related crash.
Comment 4 phoeganleisha 2007-03-10 12:14:47 UTC
I have no idea if it is or if it isn't. Thing is, I can't even start it. I click ekiga softfoon, then nothing happens for about ten seconds, then a error report is being made. I'm a beginner at this, I try things without being sure it won't crash my system. In the beginning of using ubuntu I had to reinstall it three times, because I broke it. I don't even know what the druid is.

So, do you have other things I can try? (And please, idiot-version instructions)
Comment 5 Snark 2007-03-10 12:27:09 UTC
Aaaaahhh!!!!! So I was right : nothing to do with your webcam at all!

Ok, so this is a crash-on-startup.

So let's go with the easy questions : how did you install ekiga ? From your distribution's servers, from binary packages downloaded from somewhere else, from sources ?
Comment 6 phoeganleisha 2007-03-10 13:03:55 UTC
With synaptic
Comment 7 Snark 2007-03-10 13:39:46 UTC
Could you tell us the dependancies of the ekiga package ? (paste us the output of the command "apt-cache show ekiga" run in a terminal)

I must admit that seeing gmcontact_delete after calls to PPluginServiceDescriptor::~PPluginServiceDescriptor is definitely weird.

Corrupted stack ?
Comment 12 Jan Schampera 2007-03-13 15:05:47 UTC
Yes, most likely a corrupted stack, also regarding the other backtraces. Weird.

Is there a way I can try to fix it?
Comment 14 Damien Sandras 2007-03-13 17:13:24 UTC
Can you find packages with debug symbols, install them, and try reproducing the bug ?
Comment 15 phoeganleisha 2007-03-13 23:05:03 UTC
Reproducing the bug is simple: click Ekiga softfoon and it crashes. I can't find any debug packages.

I tried deinstalling camorama (the last program I installed before Ekiga crashed). Didn't work: Ekiga still crashed.

I tried deinstalling ekiga completely through synaptic and then installing it from source. Here I ran into quite a few problems. I followed the instructions on this: http://www.cutlersoftware.com/ubuntuinstall/#source site, and got when I tried to do 'sudo make install' the following:

Opal: ( for dir in /usr/local/lib \
                     /usr/local/bin \

Comment 16 Snark 2007-03-14 06:22:04 UTC
Please keep away from the code since you obviously don't know enough to handle it...
Comment 17 phoeganleisha 2007-03-14 09:21:22 UTC
I know that, and you're not helping. Do you happen to have a useful suggestion?
Comment 18 Snark 2007-03-14 10:35:41 UTC
I am helping whenever I post to your bug report.

A useful suggestion was made by Damien and was : "look for debug packages".

I have another useful suggestion : 2.0.7 is out, you should upgrade to it, since it contains a few bugfixes and security fixes.
Comment 19 Damien Sandras 2007-03-14 13:17:49 UTC
It looks like a broken upgrade to me if it crashes directly when starting. Something corrupted in the libraries ?

Comment 20 phoeganleisha 2007-03-14 13:46:50 UTC
I can't upgrade to 2.0.7 yet, it's not on synaptic and as Snark pointed out, I should keep away from the code.

Assuming something is corrupted in the libraries, how do I fix it?
