GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 412655
Gnome-panel crashed after startup
Last modified: 2007-04-10 09:53:35 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. I was using Gnome-commander 2. I did a right click on file to make an archive 3. gnome-panel crashed (not gnome-commander) Stack trace: Memory status: size: 65191936 vsize: 0 resident: 65191936 share: 0 rss: 28352512 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 1171965706 rtime: 0 utime: 10373 stime: 0 cutime:9360 cstime: 0 timeout: 1013 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/gnome-panel' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". Other information: This bug is very annoying, because gnome-panel crashed at gnome startup. Even a reboot doesn't fix the problem. The system became unusable. I was able to repair by using an alternate session (Ctr+Alt+F1) and then deleting some hidden files. See #9 in the stack-trace for more info. I'm not an expert and it took me about 1 hour to solve the problem, I remember the last action I did before gnome restart in a normal mode is to delete the file .XAuthority, but I'm not sure that's correct. For now, each-time I start a gnome session, gnome-terminal, nautilus, xmms and gaim are started automatically. I will have a look in gnome-docs to understand why. Of course don't hesitate to contact me if I can help. Kind Regards, Charles-henri.
