Description Patrick Schönfeld 2007-02-22 12:26:49 UTC
If you use the list view and try to move or copy a file into a folder where are a lot of files already, then it is not possible to do this by: Right-Click->Copy/Cut and then Right-Click->Paste in the destination folder. That is because you don't have empty spaces then, but everywhere you click the context menu is for the file.

A solution would be to show a menu entry "Paste" in this menu anyway IF there is a file in the clipboard. I don't think that shading the entry out if there is no file in the clipboard is a good solution, but not showing it/showing it dependent on the situation seams appropriate.

This bug is still in Nautilus 2.18.0.1

One solution which would fix lot of problems in this area is:

only make to column with the file/directory activated when right clicking on it. Columns to the right like "size", "type" shouldn't get activated when right clicking on them. Then there would be enough space to also drop files at this area when dragging them from another Nautilus window.

Still valid in 3.1.4. Workaround: "Edit > Paste" exists from the menubar.

Plus I'd WONTFIX this as context menus *are* for the context. In this time the context of one file. :)
