Description Matthew Nuzum 2007-02-20 16:23:16 UTC
Please describe the problem:
This causes me to loose data - its difficult to explain, but relatively easy to reproduce.

If you start to compose an e-mail, then copy your composed text to the clipboard and then close the compose window, you cannot then paste your copied text into another program.

Here is the usecase: If you hit reply on a message, type out your reply and then at the last moment realize you meant to hit "reply all" the easiest thing may be to go back to your message, hit reply all and paste your composed message.

Steps to reproduce:
1. start to compose an e-mail by replying to a message you received
2. highlight and copy your text
3. close the window, allowing evo to discard your unsaved changes
4. begin to compose a new e-mail
6. try and paste your composed message

Actual results:
Your copied data is no longer in the clipboard

Expected results:
I would like to be able to paste text even after I've closed the window I copied it from.

Does this happen every time?
yes

It works fine in Evolution 2.22.3. Can you please try in current stable, thanks in advance.
Comment 5 Matthew Nuzum 2008-08-06 13:44:27 UTC
Hi, I tried it in 2.22.3.1 and the steps described above work correctly, BUT if instead of just closing the compose window and opening a new I close Evolution completely then my clipboard is gone.

1. Start to compose an email by replying or starting anew
2. Copy your text to the clipboard
3. Close the email, discarding changes
4. Close evolution
5. Open gedit
6. Try to paste but notice there's no clipboard contents
Comment 6 Akhil Laddha 2009-02-24 05:39:35 UTC
I really doubt if we are going to support what is mentioned in comment#5.
Matt, any thoughts ?
Comment 7 Matthew Barnes 2009-02-24 12:27:25 UTC
Sounds like a legitimate bug. We should be handing the copied text off to a GtkClipboard instead of storing it in-process, so the clipboard contents are available after Evolution terminates.
