trying to XOR two large hex values; wasn't working so hit backspace lads of times

Duplicate of bug #354730. Fixed in gcalctool v5.8.25 (which is
is GNOME 2.16.2 and beyond). Hopefully the various Linux distros
will pick up this version soon.
