What were you doing when the application crashed?
while the dvd was paused i put in another dvd and then closed the program 

(my fault i would say, but if you can fix it you are the MAN! (or woman))

on the other hand, just sensing the dvd player opening and then automatically stopping the playback could do the trick, so that's not so hard, so then your just moderate ;p.
