GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 403931
file-roller doesn't work with unace-nonfree
Last modified: 2020-11-11 19:14:06 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/80775 "Binary package hint: file-roller file-roller 2.17.5-0ubuntu1 unace-nonfree 1:3.6.8-0ubuntu2 file-roller doesn't seem to cope well with Feisty's unace-nonfree. When I'm trying to open an .ace archive with file-roller, unrar-nonfree process starts to peg cpu and file-roller's progress bar just shuffles around, but nothing else happens. I haven't had problems with other (exotic/nonfree) archive formats. I'm able to extract the archive using command line interface though."
The bug is still present in file-roller 2.18.1
Confirming this bug in file-roller 2.18.1 with ubuntu 7.04
I can also confirm this bug in file-roller 2.18.1, also on Ubuntu 7.04 using unace-nonfree
maybe it's a bug I just observed: When an ace archive has a main comment, the unace command line asks Main comment. bla bla bla <-Press any key to continue-> unace-nonfree just seems to wait for the missing keystroke... Will append a test archive with comment.
Created attachment 111969 [details] file-roller killer ACE archive with a comment, file-roller waits for eternity...
btw, the unace-nonfree has the -c- swich: unace e -c- *.ace will not stop on comments... ;) Actam
The bug is still present in file-roller 2.22.3
I tried adding the -c- option but it still doesn't work, the cpu goes 100% and it never stops. The free unace command however works fine, so maybe it's a unace-nonfree bug.
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time. If you still use file-roller and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/ Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (volunteer workforce and time is limited).
