Description Ramiro Estrugo 2001-09-10 00:39:41 UTC
This is a way to make either a bookmark, which can be added to the bookmark list or dropped in the file system to make a link file. (To make this complete, you should be able to drag out of the bookmarks window as well.)

Reducing the number of components for ease of use: zoom control and uri field
bugs are now in Navigation; Location Bar is no more.

This should probably be marked won'tfix, as mozilla doesn't even have
this now, and mjs said he didn't like this idea.

Both galeon and mozilla still have this. Seth: any thoughts on the
UI-ness of this enhancement?
Comment 3 Seth Nickell 2002-03-18 22:11:18 UTC
hm. I guess I don't have strong feelings about this. I like the
general ability to drag files out of an application (more so a web
browser than other applications, since people usually save the *url*
rather than the page itself, hence the "content to be saved" is more
the URL itself rather than the page, though obviously in the end its
likely the page that is of interest).

That said, I have been unimpressed with the "draggable thing to the
left of the location bar" approach. My impression has been most people
are unaware of this feature. On the other hand its probably not a
usability problem to have it there, and I bet most people who find it
will figure out what it does w/o too much trouble. Having a useful
icon, say the page/bookmark icon (which lots of web sites now set)
could also make it more palatable. But that's not terribly relevant to
Nautilus. Um, sorry, losing track here.

So I guess my feeling is that I think it wouldn't hurt to have this in
Nautilus, assuming it uses the current folder's icon not some generic
"drag source icon". Looking at Mozilla and Galeon, I like the way
Mozilla handles this much better. It would also be nice to have drop
down history like Mozilla. Maybe implementation of the two would go
together. On the other hand, I don't think its a huge interface win.

Thought about this a little more. Mozilla can use favicons, so for a
webview it would be nice to use the webpage favicon.

a related way to accomplish the same thing (without the need for a location bar)
is bug 129421.
Comment 7 Lionel Dricot 2005-04-13 13:03:34 UTC
I mark this bug as duplicate of #129421 since, most of the time, there's no URL
bar anymore (spatial nautilus rox ;-) )
