GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 400661
Seeking with the slider not very usable
Last modified: 2007-09-14 15:38:25 UTC
When I play videos and want to seek with the slider, it's very hard (compared e.g. to the windows media player) to seek to specific positions. 1. When I click on a position in the slider the movie doesn't skip to that position. I always have to drag the slider there. 2. I can only navigate to the keyframes. It should be possible to select an arbitrary position in the movie. 3. Sometimes when dragging the slider the shown position shows "0:00" even if the position is in the movie. 4. The default GTK slider is IMHO too big for marking a specific position. There should be only a very tall bar to indicate the current position instead of a centimeter-width slider.
Issue 1 is a duplicate of bug 129671.
I agree completely. The incremental increase is a problem; every single person I know who uses Linux or who has used my Gnome install complains about it. The slider, as mentioned, is also very inadequate for more precise moves (necessary in longer media files). 'Twould be most excellent if the behavior of the tracker/slider could be fixed.
Issue 1 is bug 129671 as mentioned by Teppo. Issue 2 is a bug in the backend itself. Issue 3 is either a xine-lib or a GStreamer problem. Issue 4 is bug 129671 as well. The slider should be rewritten. So for 2 and 3, please create new bugs in this Bugzilla with the right backend selected as the component in Totem. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 129671 ***
