Description Tommi Asiala 2007-01-19 19:38:18 UTC
As a user, I see that Evolution is made out of Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Memos and Tasks. The same thing should be seen in preferences.

There should be Contacts window(?) in preferences. Currently the only way to set contact preferences is in a tab called Automatic Contacts under Mail. Those two are not that related. Autocompletion should be under that Contacts window because that is what it auto completes, contacts' addresses. Currently the Autocompletion window doesn't tell much what it is to be autocompleted and what is "Personal".

Why is there a Calendar and Tasks tab under Mail? The tab doesn't provide enough information what it's about. "Delete message after acting"? Does that mean that after I read any message it's deleted or what, one might wonder. It doesn't say anything about appointments. Perhaps the tab should be called Appointment Messages or similar.

0) More than one issue was reported here. I'll try to split the report.

1) I don't remember what the 2.8 "Evolution Preferences" dialog looked like. Currently (2.27) there is a "Contacts" section in "Evolution Preferences" and it has a "Autocompletion" header, so this part of your bug seems resolved.

> Why is there a Calendar and Tasks tab under Mail? The tab doesn't provide

2) The fact that there is also a separate "Calendar and Tasks" section in "Evolution Preferences" only adds to the confusion. Anyhow, should we make that the subject of this bug? (I'll misuse NEEDINFO for that.)

3) Valid complaint. Does this deserve its own bug?

> Perhaps the tab should be called Appointment Messages or similar.

4) This concerns issue 2) again.

I posted some thoughts on this years ago. Not much progress has been made since then so, sadly, parts of my proposal are still applicable.

Hm. As this question is not meant to be answered by the reporter, I reset that. Maintainers can decide to either set to NEW or close as WONTFIX.
