trunk seems to be broken on x86_64.  backspace generates boxes.  works fine on i386.  I went over gcc warnings.  fixed lots of them, but none relevant.  I try to bisect to see which change caused it.

My fault.  It seems to not find its termcap file if not installed.  make install fixes it.

It probably should do something more clever.  At least a warning...

I've a patch on Bug #336105 to do just that...
Anyway, almost resurrected my x86_64 box.
