GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 391467
Properties dialog is too big
Last modified: 2007-01-30 17:06:11 UTC
Please describe the problem: The nm-properties (properties/nm-openvpn-dialog) is too big when the "Optional Information" expander is expanded. The dialog is sized at 389x774 (389x505 before the expansion) which doesn't fit on my 1280x800 resolution. Since the plugin is extremely useful on laptops and most of the recent laptops have a native 1280x800 resolution, I consider the problem a major functionality loss, especially since there is no other way to set the hidden options. Hence, I'm filling this bug as "normal" instead of "cosmetic" Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
On a second though, the whole dialog needs a bit of revamping. While "only use VPN connection for these addresses" is an optional feature that can be hidden from the inexperienced user but other options are essential for a proper connection. If your OpenVPN server is using Ethernet framing (TAP) or TCP, you won't be able to connect to it unless you enable these "optional" parameters. Granted, "Optional" could be replaced by "Advanced" and all of these make sense. But in my experience, TAP and TCP are frequently-used options and should be promoted. It would also be useful to have a dialog in which new options could be easily added. OpenVPN has a vast amount of options, some of which are really handy in some situations. Having one big dialog doesn't really help when you constantly want to add more options, IMHO. IANA GUI designer though and I'm not intimately familiar with the HIG -- that's the reason I'm not providing patches btw. Best regards, Faidon
