Please describe the problem:
I had a 500kb jpeg file and now i have trash

Steps to reproduce:
1. open n image
2. edit something 
3. try to close gimp and the confirmation dialog comes up, press save
4. while saving apply a gradient

open again the image and you are very angry, if you are lucky the image is just a bit different, if you are unlucky the image is definitly broken

This bug is REALLY critical DATA LOSS!

Don't apply a gradient while the image is being saved. And perhaps you should update to a newer version. Yours is outdated.

sorry the version is 2.2.13 (Ubuntu Feisty) and not 2.2.1
I don't apply a gradient usually, but it could be any other tool/effect, the problem is that gimp should not allow to EDIT image during saving.
