Description Calum Benson 2006-12-14 16:20:53 UTC
Using the default Clearlooks theme on GNOME 2.17, about half the items on my panel show no visual indication when they're focused. Specifcally, if I start on the main menu at the left and tab along, I see no focus on the clock applet, or the Show Desktop button, or the window list applet, or the status notification applet. Focus indication is a key accessibility requirement.

For me, it happens to applet that are buttons. I'm not sure what happened here. I guess this is quite important from an a11y point of view.

Setting some fields so that this bug doesn't get lost in the big pile of panel bugs.
Comment 3 Calum Benson 2008-05-02 18:05:51 UTC
Seems to be somewhat improved in 2.22, although there's now a good deal of inconsistency-- in Clearlooks, half the things on my panel (e.g. the clock applet, show desktop button) are 'focused' by changing their background colour (far too subtly to see, IMHO), whereas the other half (e.g. workspace switcher, notification area) are still focused with a dotted line around the outside :/
Comment 4 Sam 2009-02-22 19:03:09 UTC
Calcum,

 - So, is the inconsistency still there ? or was it occasional behavior?

I'm guessing nobody cares enough to fix this any more, but yes, the same issues in comment #3 still exist in GNOME 2.32 with the Clearlooks theme. And the notification shows no focus at all, which has been a recurring problem over the years...

Thanks for the response.
I would love to fix it. However, I don't have gnome on my system.
So, it would be tough for me to test it myself.
Also, I'm not sure if this requires more than basic c programming to fix it.

Some resources pointing in the right direction will help.
It sounds like this can be fixed easily.
If the right document, file, source code pertaining to the focus can be pointed to, I'm willing to take time to write a patch by thinking logically and upload it here for review or so atleast.

Hope this helps.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
