GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 385828
Can not use agenda wizard in OpenOffice.org
Last modified: 2007-08-20 17:48:44 UTC
When trying to use the agenda wizard to create an agenda in OpenOffice Writer, Orca can't seem to focus on the dialog that's used to enter data into the agenda, no matter how i try to navigate. The only thing i see is a read-only document, presumably where the readymade result is meant to pop up or just to show a template of how an agenda looks. Steps to reproduce this bug: 1: make sure Java and the Java bridge is installed, otherwise the function can't be reached at all. 2: go to file menu|wizards sub menu|agenda and chose that menu. 3: If i understand things correctly now, there should pop up a read-only document that depicts the layout of the agenda or somesuch and a dialog where you can manipulate things such as what template to use etc. Orca can not focus on this dialog even if alt-tabing. All orca seems to see is the template document, however, you can't quit OOO writer nor do anything except close the read-only document. I assume it's because the dialog is there and can't be dismissed or worked with since Orca can't focus on it. This is reproducable all the time. /Krister
This is another OOo bug. I've opened issue #72584 in their bug data base against this. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72584
What has this bug to do with java?
Now i have checked the Windows version of OOO and there is in fact a dialog there to change certain parameters. This dialog, i'm sure must be there even in the Linux version, only Orca can't reach it by any means. Just to let y'all know. /Kristter
From http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72584: "@richburridge: yes, but the point is that I cannot reproduce this in a *current* version of OOo (m14) on Solaris Nevada 61. The focus is in the dialog, one can travel with tab and the orca braille display shows the corresponding dialog UI elements. So can you please ask Mike Pedersen if it's fixed for him too now?" Mike, can you please check?
Comment from Eric on 26th April 2007 in OOo bug #72584 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72584 (Mike you should probably add yourself to the cc: for that bug). "@richburridge: yes, but the point is that I cannot reproduce this in a *current* version of OOo (m14) on Solaris Nevada 61. Removing target milestone from [blocked] bugs. We have little control over them, so we're better off letting priority and severity be our guide for poking the related components.
Was it on Solaris the dialog worked? On my system, Ubuntu Linux Feisty Orca seems to land in the document that is the demo page, the one that shows you how the agenda is going to look when it is filled in, and this is changeable in some way, only there's no way as far as i know to tab to the controls that change the agenda document or the layout or what should be in the layout. /Krister
I've tested this with latest gutsy. If this dialog is coming up I'm not seeing it at all. When Will tried it he got a Java error. Rich, would you mind trying this out and reporting your findings?
I don't think the dialog is coming up. I don't see any Java errors. I believe I have Java installed: $ ls -l /usr/bin/java lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2006-10-31 08:51 /usr/bin/java -> /etc/alternatives/java I'll try to find a tutorial on the Web that shows how this should work.
Previous test was with oowriter on my 64 bit Ubuntu Gutsy machine. The "About OpenOffice.org" box seems slightly confused: "OpenOffice.org 2.2 OpenOffice 2.3.0 ... openoffice.org-core 2.3.0src680m224-1ubuntu2, wed Aug 8 10:58:09 GMT" I've now just tried the same test "File->Wizards->Agenda..." with swriter on my Ubuntu Gutsy 32bit PC, using the build #223 that I'd previously downloaded. The main swriter window displays some kind of template in a vivid blue color (window title bar reads: "aw-5blue.ott (read-only) - OOo-dev Writer" An Agenda Wizard gets displayed, but unfortunately swriter goes into Error Recovery mode. This is all without Orca running (but with Accessability support turned on). I'll file YAOOoB on the latest swriter crasher and block this one against it.
I've opened OpenOffice issue #80714 against this problem. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=80714 And it's still "[blocked]" ;-)
I can no longer reproduce this with the OOG680_m1_native_packed-2-en-US.9206 Linux RPM's from 13th August 2007. Time to look at the original problem again.
Created attachment 93999 [details] Gzipped Orca debug.out generated whilst filling in the Agenda Wizard. This seems to be working just fine. Closing as FIXED. I'll also add a comment to OpenOffice issue #72584 to this effect.
Hi, what version of Orca are you using on what system? I haven't tested it as of yet on Ubuntu Gutsy with the included Openoffice package. How do you navigate to the dialog of the agenda wizard, this was my problem, i just saw the main window and nothing else but there was a dialog open because i couldn't close the OOO program. /Krister
This was with Orca from SVN HEAD (from Friday actually), on Ubuntu Gutsy. It's more likely the version of OOo that's fixing this. This was using the OOG680_m1_native_packed-2-en-US.9206 Linux RPM's from 13th August 2007. I got them from: http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html and then clicked on the "Linux (rpm)" link: http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OOo-Dev&os=linuxintel&lang=en-US&version=OOG680_m1
Sorry, I forgot to answer your question. The Agenda wizard just came up focused for me. I had to check with Will, but the magic keyboard sequence to loop through all the windows of the focused application is Alt-F6. That nicely got me to the dialog.
