What were you doing when the application crashed? pressed ESC and Backspace (not at the same time), trying to clear out the current value. Another duplicate of bug #354730. Fixed in gcalctool 5.8.25 and hopefully in GNOME 2.16.2. Hopefully Linux distros will pick it up soon.
