GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 381502
crash in Evolution: Cancelled Send/Receive d...
Last modified: 2008-08-01 15:52:35 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? Cancelled Send/Receive during POP receive phase. This is the third time I have produced this bug. I followed the bug-buddy instructions and installed some debug symbols, but am not sure which symbol packages are needed for this stack trace. Distribution: Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-10-02 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 99622912 vsize: 0 resident: 99622912 share: 0 rss: 25919488 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 1165037280 rtime: 0 utime: 910 stime: 0 cutime:852 cstime: 0 timeout: 58 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.8' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". This one is pretty robust -- it doesn't seem to matter what's in my inbox. Let me know if you need me to install more debug symbols.
Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately, that stack trace is not very useful in determining the cause of the crash. Could you please install some debugging packages [1] and reproduce the crash, if possible? Once bug-buddy pops up, you can find the stacktrace in the "details", now containing way more information. Please copy that stacktrace and paste it as a comment here. Thanks! [1] debugging packages for evolution, evolution-data-server and gtkhtml, plus debugging packages for some basic GNOME libs. Here's a more recent stack trace. Any better? no, does not look better. have you installed debugging packages?
I installed several debugging packages for Evolution and Gnome, but I guess it didn't help. I will look at the latest stack trace more carefully and see if I can figure out which libraries are involved. Look for a new trace in a couple of days. Latest dump below. From the site referenced in the response to the bug report response (http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/ddebs), I installed the debug symbols for several additional libraries, but they don't seem to have helped. I installed several libc debug symbol packages without effect. I was never able to find debug symbols for libbonobo or libpthread on the site. I guess you can close this one until someone who knows how to find and install the debug symbol packages bumps into this. doesn't look like evolution problem from traces. Can you please try in current stable version 2.22.3, thanks in advance.
(In reply to comment #9) > doesn't look like evolution problem from traces. Can you please try in current > stable version 2.22.3, thanks in advance. > Unfortunately, I've since retired the affected computer and Evolution installation, so I can't reproduce the bug or verify that it's fixed. I'd suggest closing it. Sorry, Rob
Thanks Rob for your quick reply but it is sad that you are no longer using evolution.
I appreciate your hard work tracking this down. I used Evolution on Ubuntu for over a year as my primary home mail client and I liked it. I quit using it because my old computer died and I didn't have any compelling reason to evict the pre-installed operating system (Windows) on the new computer. I was quite happy with the Open Source software on the previous computer. Thanks again, Rob
