Description Rodrigo Virote Kassick 2006-11-22 14:11:19 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When using list view, if an item is selected, expanding folders may open the selected item

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select an item in list view (file or folder)
2. Expand a folder in the same window
3. Repeat 2 an arbitrary number of times with different folders in that window

Actual results:
The previously selected item opens, though there was no mouse click anywhere in the window except the folder expanders

Expected results:
That the selected item did not open

Does this happen every time?
yes, but depends on the number of folders you expand after selecting an item

Other information:
The bug can be seen in this video. The selected folder "Bolsa" is opened after other folders in the same window are expanded.

Three years later, this still seems to happen, but only if under "Preferences" you have checked "Single click to open items" under "Behavior". It does not appear to happen under "Double click" mode. The problem was so annoying that I had to revert to Double click mode, even though I much prefer Single click mode.

By the way, this is happening now in Debian Lenny 5.03, the most current version of Debian with Nautilus version 2.20.0

The symptom is actually very reproducable: You just need to click to the right of the "expansion" arrow, somewhere slightly before actually reaching the folder icon. As long as your hand remains steady and the pointer always hits the expansion arrow right on there is no problem.

I believe this has been fixed already in newer versions of Nautilus.
Please try to reproduce the bug with at least nautilus >= 2.28 and reopen if the bug is still there, thanks.
