on my system i use black as background color.

unfortunately this makes it impossible to use dia, because the foreground color of icons is black and cannot be changed :/

Making the icons use something changeable would be well-nigh impossible, as they are not just black-and-white, see e.g. the Cisco icons.  Maybe an option to set the background of the icon buttons to something lighter?
