GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 370069
Cache CUPS Printers
Last modified: 2018-02-10 03:28:17 UTC
My institution has a central CUPS server that possesses approximately 50 some printer queues. Whenever I go to File>Print, it takes an unreasonably long amount of time for the list to populate; and often the dialog becomes unresponsive to user input. If I open the print dialog, close it, and reopen it, it must requery the server again; and the whole process drags on once again. It would be nice if GNOME/Gtk+ had some means of caching the available printers. I have seen that KDE does this. This would be a significant improvement.
Moving to gtk+ where the new printing support lives.
