Description apf 2006-10-27 05:12:39 UTC
Not sure if this would take more effort to program than it is worth but when the user clicks on "Hint" currently, a message box appears suggesting amove.

In addition to this message, it may be worthwhile to play an animation of the card moving to the required place. The animation could be repeated for, say, three times before disappearing or until the user dismisses the "hint" text box.

Other information:
This would provide one more visual prompt. Obviously, not the most pressing task in the world but if it is easy to code, may be worth adding this functionality to Aisleriot.
Comment 1 apf 2006-10-27 05:41:10 UTC
Thinking about it, there is much greater scope for animations throughout GNOME. Aisleriot is an ideal example as selecting "Play Again" or "New Game" could be the prompt for an animation of the deck being shuffled to occur. Shuffling would make the "New" function more clearly analagous to a physical game with real cards.

On losing a game, a brief clip of a crying court jester could appear for example.

Animations in applications would have to aid the user as helpful visual prompts and not become too obtrusive or ostentatious, however. As Aisleriot is a recreational application, a certain degree of extravagance not found in a productivity program may be appropriate here.

Pretty good idea, but unless someone wants to implement it, then it will not happen any time soon. It's just too much effort, compared to the improvements it will bring.

Andreas,

Thanks for your prompt feedback. Much appreciated. It is not a high priority issue but I hope someone will want to implement it. Unfortunately, I am not a programmer myself but it would be great if someone were interested.

Regards,

David Le Sage
