What were you doing when the application crashed? Nothing. Just opened. I've received some kind of mail probably malformed and anytime I try to open Evolution it crashes, so I can do nothing. David, regarding your repeated crashes, here are some hints how to recover, taken from an archived post [1] of mine: > [...] the first step is to disable the global > (pre)view option. With the (pre)view pane disabled, Evo will not render > (display) the currently selected mail when started, thus avoiding > displaying the mail that crashes Evo. > > $ gconftool-2 --set /apps/evolution/mail/display/show_preview --type bool 0 If starting Evo after running that command still crashes, there are a lot more details and info in the post how to go on. (If this happens to be a non-local account like IMAP, using another client temporarily just to get rid of the mail would do also.) FWIW, you most likely got the pre-view pane enabled, which will show the last selected mail upon starting Evo. Unfortunately the mail that is being displayed causes the crash. Unfortunately, that stack trace is not very useful in determining the cause of the crash. Could you please install some debugging packages [1] and reproduce the crash, if possible? Once bug-buddy pops up, you can find the stacktrace in the "details", now containing way more information. Please copy that stacktrace and paste it as a comment here. Thanks! [1] debugging packages for evolution, evolution-data-server and gtkhtml, plus debugging packages for some basic GNOME libs. More details can be found here: http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces/DistroSpecificInstructions
If you need more information, then ADD to Evolution the capability of logging the information you need. It is unreasonable to expect people who use Evolution in their workplace to spend hours recompiling Evolution just to get a backtrace. I suggest you look at how CodeWeavers has instrumented CrossOver Office as an example of how logging can be done.
I can understand your need for more info, but being in Vladimir's shoes I understand him too. Had lot of problems in attempt to resolve my Evo which was crashing, leaking... Sent several mails which were causing Evolution to crash and finally decided to migrate to Claws-mail. It does not have all the bells & whistles as Evo (mostly Groupware features), but it performs very nicely as a mailer giving me opportunity to again use gvim as composer editor. However, I wish you good luck in attempt to debug Evo, although number of bugs in Bugzilla is pretty scary. Sincerely, Gour
