GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 360974
Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt
Last modified: 2014-03-24 16:38:19 UTC
Please describe the problem: I'm using SJ 2.14.4 on Ubuntu Dapper and when I rip mp3s the ID3 tags are corrupt. I have viewed the files in various tag editors. Ex Falso/Quod Libet shows the correct metadata but with binary characters at the beginning of each field. EasyTAG doesn't show any metadata at all. Audio Tag Tool is able to show both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags for a file and it does not show any metadata either. I have viewed various mp3 files in a hex editor and the metadata is there, at the beginning of the file (so this means they are ID3v2?) and the fields all have 1 or 2 characters at the beginning. The first character, if present, varies but the character just preceding the actual metadata is always '03'. I have ripped multiple CDs and this always happens so it must not be an issue with the metadata provider? Perhaps encoding confusion? Steps to reproduce: 1. Insert a cd (I used Smashing Pumpkins 'Siamese Dream' and many others) 2. Confirm that metadata looks apppropriate in SJ and rip the songs to mp3 format. 3. Open mp3 in an ID3 tag editor and witness the corrupt metadata. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information: Is this bug possibly rectified in a newer version? 2.14.4 is the latest version in Ubuntu's repository.
