GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 360556
Deleting a single transaction split is non-intuitive
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:13:26 UTC
If you have several splits in a transaction, and the split I want to delete is selected, when I right-click on the split there is no option to delete the split. The correct option is "Delete Transaction", which doesn't do what you expect but queries whether you want to delete the split. If you mistaking select "Remove Transaction Splits", it will delete all splits in the transaction. Please add (or change the "Delete Transaction") an option to "Delete Split".

Yes, that's a bug and we need to do something about this. Raising severity because of multiple reports.

current "solution" is to just remove/blank all the fields of the split/line and switch to another split; it will disappear.
actually, there is an entry to delete both a complete split transaction as well as individual lines from it. Closing.
I think I misunderstood that entry. Reopening for verification.
For me, today, using GnuCash 2.2.6 with MacOS 10.5.5 the contextual menu item "Delete Transaction" does, in fact, remove just the selected split. Perhaps the menu item label can be change to "Delete". The tool tip on the Delete button in the tool bar is also miss leading. It reads "Delete the current transaction" even when a split is selected and only that split will be deleted. It could say "Delete Selected item" or "Delete the selected transaction or split".
These bugs are still present in GnuCash 2.2.9.
