(I assume this should be filed under GTK+ since I tested in several apps... GEdit, Monodevelop, etc etc... I'm too lazy to check the code. :) Anyway... )

Auto-scrolling is so fast that it's hard to use.

IMHO, Nautilus gets it right. It starts out pretty slow but the closer to the edge of the icon view one drags, the faster it auto scrolls.
