Can you try running 'rhythmbox -d' in a terminal and attach the last ~100 lines?  It looks like something weird is happening to the ipod source object.

when this happened to me (on the duplicate bug entry) i was using version 0.9.5 on ubuntu edgy.

Did you use Songbird or any 3rd party program to add songs to your iPod ? Or did you only use iTunes/gtkpod/rhythmbox for that?
