GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 355014
totem plugin at onegoodmove.org fails to load quicktime embedded video
Last modified: 2006-10-26 07:47:28 UTC
I am using Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10. In firefox with the totem plugin, embedded .mov (quicktime) video fails to play at onegoodmove.org/1gm/. Also on loading each instance of embedded video a pop-up is created stating: Totem plugin could not startup. The audio output is in use by another application. ... Totem play quicktim for me nicely so i imagine it should also handle embedded quicktime just as well? Anyways, Also the error when you actually go to play a video is as follows: Example: Totem could not play 'http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/<http://onegoodmovemedia.org/movies/0609/dsevenstepvhen.mov>E<autoplay=true controller=true>'. Sorry if this isn't technical enough ...

Crappy error message, and no attempt at fallback, courtesy of GStreamer.
autoaudiosink in gst-plugins-good CVS falls back on fakesink if it can't find a usable audio output. The video itself plays just fine (for me at least). The broken URL merging/completing is not the GStreamer's backend's fault AFAICT (we seem to get it that way from firefox). I think the error message is okay, just not right for this context (in any case, there is another bug for that somewhere).
I believe this was fixed in bug 363825
