GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 354138
Bad sound quality
Last modified: 2006-09-03 21:52:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: I installed gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 (0.10.2.debian-1) on Ubuntu 6.06. The sound quality of my mp3 files are not good with this plugin (dull cracking). Works fine with these plugins: $ gst-inspect-0.10 | grep mp3 typefindfunctions: audio/mpeg: mp3, mp2, mp1, mpga typefindfunctions: application/x-id3v1: mp3, mp2, mp1, mpga, ogg, flac, tta typefindfunctions: application/x-id3v2: mp3, mp2, mp1, mpga, ogg, flac, tta mpegaudioparse: mp3parse: MPEG1 Audio Parser lame: lame: L.A.M.E. mp3 encoder ffmpeg: ffdemux_mp3: FFMPEG MPEG audio demuxer ffmpeg: ffdec_mp3on4: FFMPEG MP3ON4 decoder ffmpeg: ffdec_mp3adu: FFMPEG ADU-formatted MPEG-1 layer 3 audio decoder ffmpeg: ffdec_mp3: FFMPEG MPEG-1 layer 3 audio decoder mad: mad: mad mp3 decoder Steps to reproduce: 1. install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 (0.10.2) 2. launch Totem or Rhythmbox 3. play an mp3 Actual results: Bad sound quality. Expected results: Does this happen every time? Every time. Other information: Problem report here too: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=243491 If the bug is in decoder maybe it's useful to know I use a P4-HT (SMP) CPU. 0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Yeah, this is a known problem. I'm still trying to figure out exactly where it's going wrong during the decoding though - it only happens on some mp3's, most are fine, and it doesn't seem to happen on x86_64 only on 32 bit machines. Any chance you could supply a sample of the first 500KB or so of an example file somewhere? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 350360 ***
