Description Edward Hervey 2006-09-01 16:31:18 UTC
From wiki.pitivi.org:

A new window that opens up or simply a new timeline allowing users to edit a source clip. This is ideal for slicing and dicing source clips before adding them to the project's timeline as it will be a much cleaner view :) - source should be updated with an additional clip (see below). If this will open up in the timeline then something, such as a button is needed to switch back to the project timeline.

This can also lead onto other features such as a source video having several edited versions such as clips with or without advertising, credits etc. The best way to implement (in my opinion) is to have the original source clip in the sources list have a drop down arrow to open up alternative edits. If PiTiVi offers a means to save these individual sources with their edited drop down version, this would make a great feature for people who have to constantly use the same clip over and over again with various variations (for example, an intro movie /in 3 colours?)

So basically, they can load "intro movie.source" into their source list which in itself, has 3 video files; a red, green and blue variation.

This is an interesting idea. However you are implying that the editing would be done on a separate timeline. Are you sure this is how you want? I guess this could be considered a combination of things. First you'd have a locked sequence. Then this sequence is then grouped with other sequences. One of which is active.

The timeline/UI side wouldn't require anything complex, it's just a matter of setting the start point and duration of the clip when inserting it to the timeline.

However, if we really want to make something that "remembers" the pre-trimming you've done on clips, this would need to be saved in the formater, and as such might require work on GES.
