GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 353773
Support video media management
Last modified: 2006-09-02 05:50:55 UTC
I'd like to propose adding support for video media management. Many current digital cameras can take video and f-spot's interface could integrate their management. A simple use case for video media management of videos coming from Canon Powershot cameras could be: 1) Add an "import videos" to the File menu, rename the current import to read "Import photos" 2) import .thm files which are really thumbnails of the videos, or ask if thumbnails need be generated (using ffmpeg) 3) import .avi files and add the "video" tag by default, also provide an option to add file to a batch job to convert to Ogg Theora for archival This would also imply new configuration preferences to sepcify if thumbnails are already present, the full path of any thumbnail generator and command line options, and also the full path of any format converter(s) and command line flags. Finally, a default media player could be specified in the preferences. Whenever a thumbnail of video would be double clicked, it would play or be opened with an editor (like avidemux is it's an avi).
A search of the mailing list for "video" in message subjects going back to jan 2005 brings several items: Related thread: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/f-spot-list/2006-April/msg00045.html An older thread of several people interested:http://mail.gnome.org/archives/f-spot-list/2005-September/msg00021.html A few hints on getting started in the code: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/f-spot-list/2005-September/msg00030.html
