GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 353742
Shift+Numpad arrows doesn't select text in mail editor
Last modified: 2015-06-04 17:51:14 UTC
Please describe the problem: I've enabled, in the Gnome keyboard settings config applet/dialog, under the "miscellaneous compatibility options", the option "Shift with numpad keys works as in MS Windows." Throughout the desktop I can select text by pressing Shift and going over the text with the arrows, and also in Evolution in the normal entry field, but not when editing an email. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new email message 2. Tab to the email body 3. type "a" 4. Press Shift + Numpad left arrow Actual results: Nothing at all Expected results: The letter "a" should be selected Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: 0/Ins and ./Del are also numpad keys but work as in MS Windows *nowhere* on the Gnome desktop. That's a different bug, but this one is more pressing, but of course if the Evo mail editor manages these keystrokes separately from the rest of GTK or whatever, it would be good if it did it right, i.e. copying, cutting, and pasting using the numpad keys should be possible too.
There is similar bug on launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/126349 "Binary package hint: evolution After selecting System - Preferences - Keyboard - Layout Options - Miscellaneous compatibility options - Shift with numpad keys works as in MS Windows, all other software recognizes SHIFT+[Numpad Arrow] as the beginning of selection of text. In Evolution SHIFT+[Arrows] (not on the numpad) work properly, but SHIFT+[Numpad Arrows] do not work. It doesn't do anything other than just ignoring the keystroke. ..."
I tried with 2.22.3 in OpenSUSE 11.0 and it worked fine. can you please check ?
I can confirm that the bug – as described in the original report – still exists in 2.22.3.1 in Ubuntu Hardy.
I cannot find the option anymore, also the 3.16.x of evolution uses WebKitGTK, instead of GtkHTML, thus it's out of our hands now.
