Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2006-08-20 18:32:52 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When navigating among the tree of results in the Deskbar Applet, Orca correctly announces items at level 2 but not those at level 1.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Orca
2. Launch the Deskbar Applet
3. Type Orca in the Search text box
4. Press Down Arrow
5. Use Up and Down Arrow to examine the results

Actual results:
All items at level 2 are spoken correctly. For items at level 1 but the topmost one, Orca speaks the text associated with the item immediately above your current location. For the topmost item at level 1, Orca announces the last item.

Expected results:
Orca would always announce the current line.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
I am using the latest Orca from CVS HEAD. Prior to the most recent fix of another bug (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347691), items were not spoken at all.

In looking at this with at-poke, something looks wrong with the Deskbar widget hierarchy. I see the same entry ("Search Wikipedia topic for orca") listed several times as leaves of the search results. This may need to be assigned to deskbar after more investigation.

There are problems with the deskbar-applet's accessibility hierarchy. The text field is okay, but the tree table contains erroneous values and incomplete information. For example, the first three contain the same value ("Search Yahoo for ...") instead of contents of the History (and possibly Places) sub-tree. In addition, the level-one tree nodes (History, Places, Web Search) are missing. This bug should be reassigned to the deskbar-applet.

Add accessibility keyword. Apologies for spam.

We don't have users complaining about Deskbar (yet), so I'm moving this to low and FUTURE.

Removing target milestone from [blocked] bugs. We have little control over them, so we're better off letting priority and severity be our guide for poking the related components.

I was just using the Deskbar Applet. You can no longer arrow to the different categories (New bug to file). But as a result of whatever they changed, we are no longer reading the incorrect information. Closing this one as OBSOLETE.
