GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 351714
Links disappear when line is edited
Last modified: 2008-02-26 20:50:46 UTC
Please describe the problem: When editing a line that contains a wiki link, the link is often changed into normal text (in other words, the text is still there, but it's no longer a link). For example if I have a line with * MyStuff and then I go to edit that line and add * MyStuff more on the same line then MyStuff is no longer an active link. The way to get it to be an active link is to press enter at the end of the line. This is a problem if you have the following: * MyLinkOne * MyLinkToo If you try to delete the blank link between the two, you'll lose one of the links. If you position your mouse on the blank line and press Delete then MyLinkTwo will no longer be a link. If you press Backspace instead then MyLinkOne will longer be a link. It can get very annoying when trying to create lists that contain links in them. Steps to reproduce: Explained above. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information:
I can't replicate this at all. What version of Tomboy are you using?
0.3.5 on Dapper. Update: I discovered that it not only happens to links, but to any formatting. In other words if I have a line like this: * List: - Do this - Do that And "List" is bold, if I go to the end of the first line and add any text or a hard return, the word "List" will no longer be bolded. The same happens for hyperlinks (though when return is pressed at the end of the line, the hyperlink reappears as it seems that at that point Tomboy re-parses the line and applies formatting; that's why it seems links reappear but text formatting doesn't.)
Created attachment 71091 [details] Screencast demoing problem described above.
Update on this bug: When moving to a new computer, I discovered that when starting with a fresh set of Tomboy notes, that the problem did not exist. When copying over my old .Tomboy folder to the new computer, the problem again resurfaced. So the problem is not with the Tomboy install but with something that I must have inadvertently introduced into my Tomboy notes themselves. Not sure what that could have been since my notes are all pretty standard.
Update: I just upgraded to tomboy 0.5.3, compiled from source, and am no longer experiencing this problem (using the same tomboy notes as before the upgrade). The problem was occuring immediately before the upgrade (i believe the version was 0.4.1). So something in the upgrade seems to have fixed this problem.
Update: I spoke too soon. The upgrade appeared to solve the problem, but after a reboot the problem was back.
