GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 349977
keyboard shortcuts with <Mod4> dont work for some things
Last modified: 2006-08-07 21:50:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: setting hotkeys that use the win keys (with keyboard preferences layout option "Meta is mapped to Win-keys") dont work for some shortcuts im trying to set Win+l (<Mod4>l) to Lock Screen Win+e (<Mod4>e)to Home folder some of the others also dont work it works fine for 'Run a terminal' though.. (Mod4+t) opens terminal and works for (Mod4+m) 'Hide all windows and focus desktop' also it works fine for others.. im not sure what is the difference between why some work and some dont maybe it has to do with wether or not metacity is handling it? Steps to reproduce: 1. goto menu System->Preferences->Keyboard 2. goto tab Layout Options 3. open the section Alt/Win key behavior 4. select "Meta is mapped to left win-key" this seems to allow win-keys to be more like a modifer key, like shift, ctl, and alt (otherwise it just uses it calls it Super_L?) 5. goto menu System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts 6. select Home Folder and type Winkey and e at the same time it should show the hotkey as set to <Mod4>e now try and use the shortcut by pressing Win+e again and notice it unselects the row? but doesnt pop up the home folder it also wont lock the screen if you try to set a key for that *. select Run a terminal and press Win+t (<Mod4>t) *. then press Win+t and notice the terminal pops up fine! Actual results: Lock Screen Home Folder and some other keyboard shortcuts dont work instead it seems to unfocus whatever you have focused until you let go, then it goes back to normal, but never launches anything Expected results: it should pop up the Home folder, or lock the screen when you press the hotkeys Does this happen every time? Other information: I looked under gconf-editor under /apps/metacity/global_keybindings i noticed that the shortcuts im trying to use that dont work, arent listed in here at all! but the hotkeys i set that DO work ARE here so it seems that if metacity is handling it, it works fine i dont know what other part of the environment handles the hotkeys that metacity isnt handling, but they dont work with <Mod4> (meta?) hotkey key modifiers
i found the options that DONT work in gconf-editor under /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings
