Bug does not appear after nautilus-burner update as of 10-22-2006 (at least on my machine). This may be a fixed problem from the edgy dist-upgrade (though it does not appear on the text-mode fresh install of edgy beta 1. These error reports may all be artifacts of the "automated" error messaging.

glenn, thanks for your feedback. would be interesting to get addiotional feedback by other reporters as well; or a good stacktrace with debug symbols installed (it's only about installing some additional packages, which shouldn't be too hard, and we would be happy if somebody would help here - see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces ). thanks in advance.

I have the same problem as the person in comment 44, the Bug Buddy constantly appears wether I press Close or Send. I'd love to help, but I don't understand how to install the package with debugging info described in the linked page above. (I haven't used linux very long, a friend helped me to update dapper to edgy. Can't tell you how, I bookmarked the page but I can't start Firefox since the upgrade either, running Galeon now.) If anyone is interested in helping me installing the debugging packages, please mail me.

I had this problem after an update from Dapper to Edgy (the day it was official). I changed the repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list (I think I shouldn't have done it that way) and ran "aptitude dist-upgrade". After rebooting part of my desktop wouldn't start (the icons). I tried "aptitude dist-upgrade" again (a few hours later) and some new packages were installed fixing the problem. I hope this helps.

This problem was happening after doing dist-upgrade from Dapper to Edgy from a CD. After it finished, Nautilus and Gnome didn't work right. Transparency on the icons on the panels was gone. Folders could not be opened (visually--only the command line could do it). The background was gone. It seemed like the system was a Dapper/Edgy hybrid. I used the update manager to redo the dist-upgrade, and some other annoying problems were fixed, but not this. After a reboot it was working okay. The panels still won't auto-hide though.

278 rejected traces so far.
I think the traces are really like this: [possibly update_smart_separators] [possibly more recursive update_node] update_node do_updates_idle which will all show up as _gtk_menu_is_empty since they're static functions coming after that public function in gtkuimanager.c. Is the data for the rejected traces available? Newer bug-buddies include xsession-error output, maybe some warnings could give a clue? FWIW, I couldn't reproduce the bug.
(In reply to comment #217) > Is the data for the rejected traces available? Newer bug-buddies include > xsession-error output, maybe some warnings could give a clue? AFAIK nope. When simply rejecting bugs, no info will be stored in bugzilla, other than the reject is being counted. In the case of rejecting with a response by mail, the response contains a full dump of the original report. By hardwiring (in the bugzilla/rejecter code) a Bcc you /can/ get these traces. Been there, done that -- for some checking when we initially started this. Another possible option would be to *temporarily* disable the reject (if possible), which would mean removing (eek) or modifying the trace to reject. However, this absolutely needs someone to watch dupes closely, and get the reject back in place once we got some data. I'd like to hear Olaf's opinion first, anyway. It may be possible for Olaf to hack the rejecter so the desired data can be gathered. At any rate, this seems to be the NEEDINFO plus reject case, which I mentioned in the Notes for Maintainers section... Contact the Bugsquad. ;)
Would be interesting to know if this still happens with current svn. This may be relevant: 2007-01-13 Matthias Clasen <mclasen@redhat.com> Merge from trunk: * gtk/gtkuimanager.c: Don't crash if menu or toolbar positions can't be found. (#396161, Hans Breuer)
