Description lsof 2006-07-22 21:15:11 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I start evolution, it takes a while every time "generating message list".

Is there any chance that it not do this?
It would be good if it used the old message list instead, unless it noticed newer messages, or an inconsistency.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?

this refers to the vfolders and the index data - you can disable indexing for all your folders (which makes searching way slower); disabling vfolders is not yet supported.

Comment 2 lsof 2006-07-24 14:18:41 UTC
I'm not requesting to disable indexing, I'm requesting that indexing be more intelligent, i.e. don't rebuild it on start, use the existing index

btw how is this related to bug 300336?
Comment 3 André Klapper 2006-07-24 15:18:54 UTC
okay, reopening. POP?
IMAP? what are you cache settings?
Comment 4 lsof 2006-07-24 17:11:13 UTC
All POP.

Cache settings? Not sure, but I haven't changed any of them (I didn't know I could). I have two search folders though.
Comment 5 Jeffrey Stedfast 2006-07-24 17:25:32 UTC
Evolution already simply just loads a cached summary for the message-list... the "generating message-list" status text in the status bar means that it is drawing the message-list, not fetching information.

from what I understand, pango has gotten pretty slow at rendering text so that is probably the problem.
Comment 6 lsof 2006-07-24 18:08:43 UTC
Ah, I see - but that doesn't seem to make sense.. the message appears while the messages are being downloaded, and the Inbox pane does not get updated until that has finished for all mailboxes..
Comment 7 lsof 2006-07-26 18:06:09 UTC
The message-list in view is tiny - ten messages, so I don't think this is the problem, so reopening.
Comment 8 Jeffrey Stedfast 2006-07-26 18:24:03 UTC
but you have more than 10 messages in god knows what sort order possibly also threaded. that's what that text means. this bug report is vague and unhelpful at all.
Comment 9 lsof 2006-07-26 18:33:03 UTC
.. and it takes ten seconds to draw ten messages? Wow.
