Description Travis Reitter 2006-07-05 17:15:24 UTC
Photos tagged with the special "hidden" tag are easily displayed by simply clicking the "hidden" checkbox. Since these photos are quite likely very personal, it would be nice to protect them with the user's password. That way, other people cannot view the user's photos through f-spot without their permission (say, if the other people borrow their laptop for a few minutes). Another scenario is, when showing off photos to your family, you would not want to accidentally display "hidden" photos if you accidentally hit the checkbox.

I don't think your suggestion is within the use cases the Hidden tag is designed for. Say the Hidden tag was password protected, somebody borrowing your laptop could still view them via nautilus or any other program.

One work around for you, if you are really concerned about accidently showing Hidden photos is to create another Tag and put the Hidden tag in it.

I'm marking this as NEEDINFO - please let me know if I've addressed your concerns and if you still think this is bug report should stay open. Thanks!

Can we reopen this bug? I don't think that the "Hidden" Tag is adequate either. A quick 'n' dirty fix would be something like creating an "f-spot" user, and chowning the "hidden" photos to that user, and chmodding them to 700. It's not very pretty, but should work, unless someone's running as root, in which case, well, tough. Alternatively, encryption would do the trick, just encrypt the photos, and require a password to decrypt and view. Ideally these would be integrated into f-spot though.

Slight (but related) side issue, would it be possible to exclude certain photos from a screen saver based on tags? For example, I may not particularly want photos to be tagged as hidden, but rather as say, "gory", or "rude joke", "drunk", etc, and then set the screen saver not to show photos based on tag? Obviously, if there's only one tag on each of these photos, fair enough, but if for example, I want to tag a photo "Me", "Uni", "Drunk", and want to show all photos from Uni, except the ones where I'm drunk?

Thanks

Joe
