Please describe the problem:
I downloaded a copy of a RAID card manual from:

 http://www.highpoint-tech.com/manuals/RR2300_UM_EN_1.0_031306.pdf

... and attempted to open it in evince.  It prompts for a password.  I tried it with Acroread, and it opens fine with no password.
