GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 343593
missing 'erase' in desktop device right-click menu ...
Last modified: 2006-07-19 16:14:41 UTC
I insert my re-writable CD into the drive, nautilus pops up a window showing the contents: all well and good. I'd rather like to be able to erase the disk though; [ no idea why ] but would it be possible/sensible to have an 'Erase' context menu item on the CD ? that would then post erase kick-off the burn:///. Failing that just something to launch burn:/// would be nice I guess (?)
We've been sceptical of requests for adding an erase feature in the past since it is hard to imagine erasing a disc independently of burning data onto it. How would you be using it? Now, having an "Open CD/DVD Creator" option on the context menu sounds like a good thing. Also note that there should be such an option in the Places menu already.
The most elegant way would be to blank the disc when the file are deleted with nautilus, instead of dening the possibility of that operation (after all, the media *is* writable). Fast, easy and intuitive. Nautilus should also ask if you want to write to the {CD,DVD} (automatically blanking it before), when you drag and drop files to the mounted {CD,DVD}. See also bug 335816.
