Description Corey Burger 2006-05-22 09:06:33 UTC
Please describe the problem:
If I click on a link after I have been scrolling with the mouse wheel, sometimes
I will "jump" back in the direction.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Scroll with mouse wheel
2. Click
3. Sometimes the page will jump back

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?
No, which is annoying bit

Other information:
I have noticed this with Ubuntu 5.10 and Fedora Core 4. It seems to be a mouse
wheel issue, because I have never noticed with my touchpad on my laptop, which
runs Ubuntu 6.06.

Thanks for your report.

Hmmm my mouse does this sometimes because the wheel is very bad quality.
Maybe your mouse is broken? Can you test this using another wheel mouse?

Anyone can confirm this?
Comment 2 Corey Burger 2006-08-21 00:04:09 UTC
I have tested on the following machines;

Work - FC4, Mozilla backend
Home Desktop Ubuntu 6.06, FF 1.5 backend
Home Laptop Ubuntu Edgy, FF 2.0beta backend

Three (or more) different mice, with two different OSes. The issues occurs on all of them.

The only scenario where I am able to reproduce this is where a new tab will be opened as a result of the middle click. The page jumps a bit because there must be room created for a new notebook tab. Is this what you are referring to?
Comment 4 Corey Burger 2006-09-04 00:37:26 UTC
Maybe, but it doesn't jump to exactly where I started scrolling, which is sometimes more than a page.
Comment 5 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2006-10-03 10:00:11 UTC
Maybe this is related to the find + click bugs.

Comment 7 Matthew Gregg 2007-02-22 15:06:56 UTC
Happens to me all the time and has been happening for a while now.
When scrolling in my feed reader(one long page), trying to open a link I find that the page often will scroll back up, not just a little, but pages. It's quite annoying to have to continually scroll back down to find where I was reading before the jump happened.
Comment 8 Matthew Gregg 2007-02-28 00:40:16 UTC
I've turned on "keyboard selection mode"(via hitting F7) and notice no jump scrolls since. Can anyone else confirm? I'm using 2.17.92 in Ubuntu Fiesty.

Marking as dup of Bug #335226 since there's some extra comments there and this problem seems to be more frequent on searches.
